Oh, how I've underestimated you. I thought you were just a little bit taller than me and that summiting you would be easy.
My first experience camping on one of the mountains in Grand Veymont, the highest peak of the Massif du Vercors is definitely one of the stories I would tell my kids. I fairly underestimated the weather and the challenging routes. We had to cover 35km and almost 2500m of elevation gain in 2 days. To be honest (this is my ego speaking), without a 10kg bag on your back it would be a lot easier. It was... for the most part, until nightfall.
I didn't prepare enough, didn't bring thick clothes, and only relied on a very thin windbreaker for the night. Little did I know, I had to sleep in a tent with 0 degrees temperature outside, not so far from the summit that was covered with ice.
Well, it didn't really go well. I woke up at 3am shivering and couldn't get myself back to sleep. The only thing that crossed my mind that night was how I would die from hypothermia. I tried every single sleeping position and none of them seemed to work. The worst part was that the next day, I had to cover another 10km to get back in time.
If you're reading this, I'm alive to tell the story.
And if you're reading this, mom, don't worry, I'm definitely okay! If anything, I'm more alive than ever...
This is definitely a good reminder for me that the mountains do not forgive mistakes...
